Telecom operators added 15.87 million subscribers in May, 2010?a total of 653.92? according to the data released by the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (Trai) on Monday. This is an increase of 2.49% from the 638.05 million subscribers in April. The overall teledensity (telephones per 100 people) in the country has reached 55.38%. With the addition of 16.30 million wireless subscribers, the total wireless subscription in the country now is 617.53 million from 601.22 million in April?a growth of 2.71%. The wireless subscription grew by 48.7% from May last year, with category C circles recording the highest growth of 63% during the year. Category B circles came second with a growth of 51.8% followed by category A circles at 45.4%. The growth in the wireless category was led by Bharti Airtel, with an addition of three million users.
