Tata Steel?s India operations for 2010-11 has seen all-round improvement with crude steel production of 6.855 million tonne (mt) exceeding the steel major?s installed capacity of 6.800 mt. It recorded a 4.4% rise over the figure of 6.564 mt for FY 2009-10.

This is the first time since completion of its expansion last year that the company?s crude steel production has surpassed its installed capacity.

The steel major also achieved higher hot metal and saleable steel production of 6.855 mt (6.564 mt) and 7.503 mt (7.231 mt) in the year just ended, thus recording a hike of 3.8% and 3.9% over last year?s figures. The company also recorded a 4% rise in its sales at 6.414 mt (6.169 mt), with sales of its long products showing a 7% jump at 2.876 mt (2.697 mt) while its flat products saw a 2% rise in sales at 3.538 mt (3.472 mt). The steel major?s flat products division also achieved the milestone of crossing for the first time the one million-mark insales by selling 1.043 mt during the year, an 18% rise over the previous year?s figure.

The company?s skin panel sales at 0.049 mt showed an increase of 49% as compared to the previous year while sales of its branded flat products crossed for the first time the one million tonne mark.

Among its branded long products, Tiscon showed sales of 1.82 mt (1.57 mt) thus becoming the market leader in the retail rebar segment.

The company said its biggest ?G? blast furnace achieved its best ever annual production at 2.11 mt (previous best 2.09 mt FY10), while both its steel melting shop LD no. 2 and LD no.1 also achieved their best-ever production at 3.80 mt (previous best 3.71 mt in FY10) and 3.05 mt (previous best 2.85 mt in FY?10) respectively.

Similarly, the steel major?s hot strip mill, new bar mill and merchant mill too achieved its highest ever production of 3.73 mt (previous best 3.65 mt in FY10), 0.72 mt (previous best 0.67 mt in FY10) and 0.37 mt (previous best 0.34 mt in FY10) respectively.
