The succession plan is slowly emerging at Sundaram-Clayton (SCL), the holding company of TVS Motor and one of the major auto component manufacturers in India. After Lakshmi Venu, the daughter of TVS Motor?s chairman and managing director Venu Srinivasan (and recently married to Infosys? scion Rohan Murthy), joined the SCL board as director (strategy) in early 2010, it is now time for Sudarshan Venu, son of Venu Srinivasan to join the company as additional director.
The SCL board which met on Friday has approved the appointment of Sudarshan Venu. While Lakshmi was groomed to take on the emerging challenges, identify new areas and products, explore new business opportunities to take the company to greater heights, Sudarshan will be trained to spearhead the company along with his sister, sources said.
Interestingly, SCL is the holding company of TVS Motor and Venu Srinivasan is also the MD of this company.
Sudarshan Venu is a graduate with honours at the Jerome Fisher Program in Management and Technology at the University of Pennsylvania, US. He also obtained a bachelor of science degree in mechanical engineering from the School of Engineering and Bachelor of Science in Economics, both from the Wharton School, University of Pennsylvania.
He recently completed his masters in International Technology Management from the Warwick Manufacturing Group, an academic department at the University of Warwick in the UK. While pursuing his masters, he underwent on-hands training in die casting division of Sundaram-Clayton and in TVS Motor Company. Given his academic background and exposure to the industry, it is considered that he will be a good asset, company sources said.
