Sristi Cable TV Network Ltd on Saturday formally announced its presence as a multi-system operator (MSO) with the launch of cable TV services using the conditional access system (CAS) across a wide belt stretching from Kidderpore to Behala and Joka.
Rajnarayan Roy Chowdhury, a director, said the company has also entered the production of digital films.
“Sristi is among the first MSOs in the country to have a CAS network that is fully compliant with the Telecom Regulatory Authority’s guidelines,” said Roy Chowdhury.
The company has earmarked a capital expenditure of Rs 15 crore in the current fiscal year.
Nearly 50 cable operators in central and north Kolkata have come under the umbrella of Sristi, which now covers densely populated clusters like Kidderpore and Behala and extending up to Joka.
Sristi said it has a subscriber base of approximately 50,000, of which nearly 3000 subscribers have opted for CAS during the past three months and this segment is growing at a rate of 10 to 12% per month.
Sristi’s CAS service started from May 2007. It also provides broadband internet services.
“We are technically equipped and prepared to launch IPTV service. Sristi would be one of the first MSOs to launch IPTV service in Kolkata,” said Mr Roychowdhury.
Sristi is also planning to launch a free education channel on its cable network. This would be aimed at the secondary and higher secondary students.
