Led by chilli and pepper, spices exports from the nation are up by 26% in value terms during April-November 2007-08 compared to the corresponding period in the previous FY. In dollar terms, the increase was to the tune of 42 %, as $ 700.95 million was realised from exports.

India?s total export of spices and spices products touched 286,302 tonne valued at Rs 2,840.03 crore for the period. The corresponding figure for the previous year stands at 238,334 tonne valued at Rs 2,255.13 crore.

Exports for the eight months have achieved 75% of the volume target and 79% of the value target set for 2007-08. Spices Board has targeted exports of 380,000 tonne of spice products valued at Rs 3,600 crore for the FY.

India exported 128,000 tonne of chilli as against 82,221 tonne in the previous comparing period.

In value terms, chilli exports touched Rs 696.36 crore. The unit realisation for chilli for the period stands at Rs 54.40 per kg.

While pepper exports increased by 32% in volume terms during the eight months to touch 24,250 tonne as against 18,405 tonne in the previous comparing period, the realisation increased by 93%.

India got Rs 351 crore for exporting pepper as against Rs 181.14 crore in the comparing period last year. The unit realisation per kilogram increased to Rs 144.74 from Rs 98.61.

Cumin, garlic and nutmeg exports are showing a negative trend for the FY, while spice oil and oleoresins are up marginally by just 1%.
