State Bank of Travancore (SBT) has recorded 70.37% rise in net profit to Rs 113.83 crore during the second quarter of the current fiscal as against Rs 66.81 crore during the same period last year.
Net profit in the first half was Rs 154.95 crore, as against Rs 154.08 crore during the corresponding period last year, a bank release said here on Monday. The NRE deposits clocked a growth of Rs 921 crore during the half year to reach Rs 9,324 crore.
Operating profit during the second quarter of 2008-09 was Rs 214.87 crore compared to Rs 132.11 crore in the year-ago period, up by 63%, the release said. Operating profit was Rs 382.44 crore, compared with Rs 287.95 crore during the same period last year.
The total business of the bank grew by 18.76% to Rs 69,026 crore as at the end of September 2008 from Rs 63,106 crore as at the end of March 2008. The bank has granted waiver and relief of agriculture loans to the tune of Rs 343.84 crore under agricultural debt waiver relief scheme benefiting 1.24 lakh farmers. Out of the above Rs 311.72 crore was extended to 1.13 lakh farmers.
The bank has reported an EPS of Rs 227.65 for the second quarter of this fiscal compared to Rs 133.62 in the corresponding period previous quarter.
