The government on Monday reconstituted the interdisciplinary body ? the National Manufacturing Competitiveness Council (NMCC) ? to re-energise and sustain the growth of manufacturing industries in India and also help in the implementation of strategies. Tata Group?s Ratan Tata and TVS Motor?s Venu Srinivasan are among the members of the NMCC.

The council, which will be chaired by industry veteran V Krishnamurthy, will aim to serve as a forum for coherent policy in the manufacturing sector.

India?s ambition is to increase the share of manufacturing in GDP from 16% at present to 25% by 2025.

Other corporate honchos on the council include S Kumars Group Chairman Mukul Kasliwal, Larsen & Toubro CMD A M Naik, ITC Ltd CMD Y C Deveshwar, Godrej & Boyce Ltd CMD Jamshyd Godrej and HCL Infosystems Chairman and CEO Ajai Chowdwry, an official statement said on Monday.

Other than officials of different ministries and the Planning Commission, heads of three apex chambers ? Ficci, CII and Assocham ? are also on the council which was formed in 2004.
