Indian Railways will take steps to prevent repetition of leak in examination papers, as unearthed by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on June 17. CBI had arrested eight people including son of chairman, Railway Recruitment Board (RRBs), Mumbai, in the multi-crore scam.
?We have given too much of responsibility to chairmen. The chairmen should not have so much access to everything and therefore we are putting in necessary checks and balance in the examination system to prevent leakage of question papers in future,? Railway Board chairman Vivek Sahai said on Tuesday. The steps will be taken ?very soon?, he added.
Chairmen of all 21 RRBs were changed by railway minister Mamata Banerjee after she assumed office in 2009. ?Our dependence on one person (chairman) of RRB for conducting the examinations is to be rectified. Who knew that the very person who is entrusted with the conduct of the examination would turn out to be a traitor,? Sahai said.
CBI had arrested Vivek Bhardwaj Sharma, son of S M Sharma, chairman of RRB Mumbai on June 17 along with seven others, including then ADRM in Raipur AK Jagannatham and his son Srujan for allegedly leaking exam papers early this month.
After the scam came to light, the Railways suspended Sharma and postponed the examination that was scheduled for June 27. The entity has two lakh vacant posts at present.
The Railways is mulling changing the selection procedure for question papers. Currently, each RRB prepares its own set of questions. But the Railways is considering allowing random selection of questions for each RRB. This way, any leakage in one centre will have no impact on others as the students will be provided multiple set of questions, Sahai said.
