There are some gadget deals which seem a little too good to be true, until you actually see them in real life. And yes, big screen televisions at unbelievable price fall in that category. The LG Infinia 60PK950 arrived for testing in a huge box. One look at it and we thought the price would be anywhere between Rs 2.5 lakh and Rs 3 lakh. However, that figure, I am afraid, is not entirely correct. So, you would assume the price will be more? You would be wrong too.

But before I discuss the price further, let me first tell you about the television itself. Now read the next sentence. The Infinia is a 60-inch plasma television, offering a full high definition resolution. This sentence alone tells you that the Infinia, once sitting in your living room (or even on the wall) will be an enormous beauty. Dressed completely in glossy black finish, the Infinia is designed to give a borderless look when switched off and has a completely clean and flat front. Switch it on and the amazing full high definition display will take your breath away.

The fact is that this plasma television makes the Infinia handle black colours better than LCD televisions can. Movie viewing will be an even better experience, not just because of the screen size, but also because the blacks are extremely dark and the other colours are vivid and lifelike. Not only that, there are 8 picture modes which can be selected. Detailed settings let you adjust the colour depth, noise reduction and edge enhancement which are essential to tweak to get the best image results on a screen size this big.

The image clarity was great, and we tested this by connecting a high definition media player to it. The image fluidity was excellent which made fast moving scenes crystal clear, instead of being a blur.

Sound has never been the strong point of any flat panel television, and we always suggest you get a home theatre setup to enjoy the television to the maximum. The Infinia is on the same lines, even though it tries it?s hardest to be better. The 200 watt speakers are hidden away and offer a lot of clarity for dialogues, but the bass ingredient is completely lacking.

The remote control of the Infinia is a bit different from the type of remotes we usually see, and this is quite good too. The keys are well laid out, no doubt, but they are all as flat as the rest of the remote?s body. Some may find this interesting, but be rest assured that finding and pressing the correct key, in the dark, without looking, may not be as easy as you think.

Even though the Infinia is extremely slim, it still manages to offer a lot of connectivity ports. There are 4 HDMI input ports?three on the rear panel and one on the side. There is a video playback capable USB port as well. Plus, the usual component and composite inputs are available as well.

Now comes the extremely interesting issue of price. With a Rs 1,59,000 price tag, the Infinia offers a 60-inch screen size, full high definition display and looks to kill for. I would recommend this television to everyone who wants a big screen television?be it movie buffs or sports lovers. The price is unbeatable, and the performance offered is excellent. A great deal, all around, for everyone.
