As the Valley continues to simmer, protestors have begun targeting the homes and properties of politicians associated with the ruling coalition.

In the past four weeks, protestors targeted the houses of two ministers, a house of an MP and properties of three National Conference legislators in different parts of Kashmir. Each time, the police and CRPF had to used tear smoke shells and firing to disperse protestors.

On Tuesday, groups of protestors tried to torch the house of agriculture minister Ghulam Hassan Mir on the outskirts of the city. Though the protestors could not break the security cordon, they managed to smash the windows of the minister?s house. Earlier in the day, another group had targeted the hotel belonging to Mir at Tangmarg.

On Monday, protestors set on fire the office of a senior Congress leader and education minister, Peerzada Mohammad Sayed at his home constituency Kokernag. On the same night, a group of angry men tried to attack the house of the NC?s Sopore legislator Mohammad Ashraf Dar at Dangerpora Sopore but timely intervention by the police saved the legislator?s house. On the same day, hundreds of protestors damaged a private school at Sangam Anantnag as it was owned by NC legislator Altaf Ahmad.

Last month, the police had to open fire in Baramulla as the protestors tried to attack the official accommodation of minister of state for health, Javid Ahmad Dar in Baramulla. A 22-year-old boy was killed in police firing. Also last month, protestors targeted the ancestral house of NC MP from Baramulla, Sharief-ud-din Shariq, at Handwara town twice.
