India is poised to play a key role in the fight against the global economic crisis. It promotes the spirit of co-existence and accommodation. India is also one of the engines of growth for world economy, Tamil Nadu chief minister, M Karunanidhi, told a gathering of people of Indian origin, here on Thursday.
Addressing the seventh Pravasi Bharatiya Divas conference, he said, ?Today, the world is facing many new challenges. The violence driven by extremism is a major challenge. Similarly, the down-turn in the global economy is another issue. I am convinced that India has to play a special role in this global context. There is a broad belief that countries like India and China hold the key to early revival.?
The CM said, ?Within India, Tamil Nadu would be one of the states to lead in global recovery. Tamil Nadu has a well-developed industriaI base and is emerging as the focal point of innovation and knowledge-economy. Our government has taken a pro-active approach to attract investments from major multinational companies. Some of the companies that have come forward to establish or expand their projects in recent times include names like Daimler, Renault, Nissan, Hyundai, Ford, Nokia, Dell, Motorola and Samsung.?
