Potato futures prices fell by Rs 12.20, to Rs 703 per quintal in futures trade on Wednesday, as speculators offloaded their positions, driven by less offtake in the spot market.

At the Multi Commodity exchange counter, potato for delivery in May fell by Rs 12.20, or 1.70 per cent, to Rs 703 per quintal, with a business turnover of 20 lots.

The potato for delivery in March contract eased by Rs 11.40, or 1.62 per cent, to Rs 692 per quintal, with an open interest of 795 lots.

While April-month delivery contract traded lower by Rs 11, or 1.61 per cent, to Rs 669.40 per quintal, with a business turnover of 189 lots.

Fall in potato futures prices was due to speculators offloaded their positions, driven by subdued demand in the spot market, traders said.
