Total exports of oilmeals from the country declined by 22% at 1.40 lakh tonne during the month of July 2007 from 1.80 lakh tonne in the same period last year, according to the Solvent Extractors? Association of India (SEA).

The overall export of oilmeals during the first four months (April 2007 to July 2007) of current fiscal year 2007-08 was reported at 9.57 lakh tonne compared to 10.55 lakh tonne, down by 9% on lower exports of soya meal and groundnut meal due to poor demand and disparity in export realisation.

Export of soybean meal was down from 6.85 lakh tonne to 4.92 lakh tonne while groundnut meal was down from 43,100 tonne to 4,775 tonne during the first four months (April-July) of current year 2007-08 due to failure of groundnut crop. However, castor meal export jumped to 1.13 lakh tonne from 34,000 tonne, thanks to continued buying from South Korea while rice bran export also increased to 66,925 tonne from 32,400 tonne last year in the same period. In fact, the export of oilmeals was up by 5% for first nine months (Nov?06 to July?07) of the current oil season.

During the four months of the current fiscal, Vietnam has shown quantum jump in oilmeals imports from India and reported at 3.60 lakh tonne (consist of 2.68 lakh tonne of soybean meal, 24,975 tonne of rapeseed meal and entire quantity of 66,925 tonne of rice bran extraction from India).

South Korea reported imports of 2.27 lakh tonne from India (consist of 1.35 lakh tonne of rapeseed meal, 80,450 tonne of castorseed meal and 12,150 tonne of soybean meal).

Japan imported 1.05 lakh tonne (consist of 102,050 tonne of soybean meal and 2,500 tonne of rapeseed meal). China reduced the import from India due to better local crushing and imported only 65,175 tonne of rapeseed meal during the review period.
