The Harman Kardon Go + Play Micro is a portable iPod/iPhone loudspeaker dock that is lightweight and comes with a look and a sound that immediately identifies its Harman Kardon heritage. The Go + Play Micro is the natural evolution of the classic ?boom box.? It has good range, the remote works, it has decent bass but it is lacking an FM tuner.
The main input for the device is a docking connector for iPod/ iPhone whereas a 3.5 mm (1/8-inch) output jack is available as an auxiliary connector for other devices. The basic defining factor for the device is the fact that it has a distinctive, arched stainless-steel handle. The handle provides elegance to the design on top of accentuating the ease and sturdiness of carry. The dock is available in black colour and weighs in at 3.9 kg which is not exactly a hindrance to its portability. However, the dock does not sport battery backup and requires an AC source at all times to operate. This might not exactly fare well on the portability front.
We plugged a standard iPod Touch to the dock and we were not disappointed with its performance. The dock was simple to use with minimalistic buttons and operations was as simple as connecting the iPod and it works. Volume control and an off/on button is all that there is on the dock in terms of control. The remote control of the dock is easy to operate with basic functionality. The fact that the dock charges the iPod when connected also adds a star to its positives.
The dock provides great sound output with adequate bass, though we felt the volume was a bit low even at maximum output.
The dock also provided video-out functionality in which the output was not upscaled and a lag of few seconds was visible in the picture and volume. That being said, the sound quality, futuristic minimalist design and ease of portability sets this dock apart from the others available in the market.
