BEML has set a turnover target of Rs 4,200 crore in 2010-11 and also plans to cross Rs 5,000 crore in fiscal 2011-12 on the back of some good business in rail and metro sectors, a top official of the company said.

BEML chairman and managing director VRS Natarajan, while addressing a press conference on Monday, said the company has increased its rail and metro business to Rs 1,000 crore in 2009-10 from Rs 457 crore in the previous year.

The company?s order book stood at Rs 5,206 crore, of which a major chunk of Rs 3,300 crore came from rail and metro business while Rs 1,160 crore worth business was contributed by the mining and construction equipment sector and Rs 700 crore came from the defence segment.

The company has so far bagged orders to supply metro cars to Delhi Metro and Bangalore Rail projects. Delhi Metro Corporation has awarded Rs 1,365 crore worth order to BEML for 192 metro cars while the company bagged an order worth Rs 1,672 crore to supply 150 metro cars to Bangalore Metro project.
