Acting on the complaint by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) about interference in the probe into alleged irregularities in 2010 Commonwealth Games, newly appointed minister for sports & youth affairs Ajay Maken on Monday sacked CWG Organising Committee chairman Suresh Kalmadi and general secretary Lalit Bhanot. Their respective charges were handed over to OC CEO Jarnail Singh, who used to be in the PMO during Atal Behari Vajpayees tenure, said ministry officials.

The CBI had, on December 8, written to the cabinet secretariat seeking action against Kalmadi and Bhanot as they were creating hindrances and witnesses were refusing to testify as long as they were at the helm, said officials.
