The Himachal Pradesh government on Tuesday vested ?all the functions, properties, interests, rights, obligations and liabilities of the Himachal Pradesh State Electricity Board under Section 131(1) of the Electricity Act, 2003, with immediate effect?. The move follows a notification dated June 15.

The state government also constituted a managing committee, comprising the chairman and members of the HPSEB, to administer functioning till the board is re-vested in a new company or companies as per the Act. While issuing the notification, the state government made it clear that the ?intention of the state government is to reorganise the board within provisions of the law in the best possible manner and to protect the service conditions of the employees?.

Only last week, the joint front of HPSEB employees and engineers had submitted to the government a model to reorganise the board. Later, the state chief secretary had a detailed meeting with representatives of the joint front.

Sources told FE that the model suggested by the employees? joint front suggests that the HPSEB should be reorganised into one company that should handle all the three activities ?generation, transmission and distribution.
