The Rourkela Steel Plant (RSP) of Steel Authority of India has reported higher production during the April-October period of the current fiscal.

According to a plant spokesperson, RSP produced 1.32 million tonne of hot metal, 1.24m tonne of crude steel, and 1.13m tonne of saleable steel during the period under review, representing capacity utilisation of nearly 113%, 112% and 115%, respectively.

During October 2008, the plant produced 2,01,619 tonne of hot metal from its four blast furnaces. It was the highest-ever monthly production since the inception of RSP. The figure represents capacity utilisation of nearly 119%.

Crude steel production, which reports 118% of capacity utilisation, stood at 1,90,000 tonne.

The steel market had witnessed an unprecedented sluggishness during the month. This resulted in lower volume of sales and accumulation of stock, the spokesperson said.
