The prestigious 1,200-mw Rajiv Gandhi Thermal Power Project Khedar in district Hisar is set to break all records of speedy implementation, which is likely by December end.

The first unit of this project is likely to be commissioned before December 2009, and the second before March 2010. The project engineers and workers are working round the clock to achieve these targets and the project had achieved a record by completing the hydraulic test of the boiler of Unit -1 on March 1, 2009 , in 24 months and 29 days. In the case of Unit-2 the hydraulic test was successfully completed on April 18, around four months before the original schedule.

Major construction activities are going on as per schedule or ahead of schedule for this Rs 4,297 crore project.

Sanjeev Kaushal, managing director of Haryana Power Generation Corporation Limited told FE that an overall progress of around 88% has already been achieved and in project engineering and procurement a progress of 93.1% and 92.2%, respectively, has been achieved. Giving technical details he added that the turbine generator of the first 600 mw Unit of the project is presently rolling on barring gear, which is a crucial activity in the commissioning process. On the financial front,he said that overall expenditure of Rs 3,055 crore has so far been incurred on the project.
