The food and supplies department, Haryana has issued model Citizens? Charter for the Targeted Public Distribution System (TPDS) to ensure its effective implementation to the best advantage of the beneficiaries with full transparency and efficiency of operations and accountability of authorities implementing it.
As per the Charter, TPDS benefits the poorest of the poor identified families under the Antyodaya Anna Yojana (AAY) and other population living Below the Poverty Line (BPL). As regards people above the poverty line, the benefits under TPDS are restricted as per instructions issued from time to time.
According to Centre, in Haryana there are only 7.89 lakh families which are living below the poverty line. The work of identification of BPL and AAY families is being done by the department of rural development and department of urban development, which are identifying such families in rural and urban areas, respectively.
