The Jaipur district administration has slapped closer notices on two plants located in the Kalinga Nagar Industrial Complex at Dubri in Orissa.

Government sources said the ferro alloy plant of Rohit Ferrotech, a listed company, and the steel unit of Dinabandhu Steel & Power had been using ground water illegally without adhering to the environment norms. Acting on an official report based on plant inspections, Jajpur district magistrate Sanjaya Kumar Singh ordered for the closure of those plants.

A high-level team headed by industries principal secretary Ashok Dalwai recently reviewed the activities of the projects coming up in the industrial complex. The team expressed concern over plants being operational without taking adequate measures for checking pollutions. It also expressed displeasure over illegal use of ground water by the plants.

It was decided in the review meeting that erring plants would be closed down. Both the Rohit Ferrotech and Dinabandhu violated the norms despite repeated warnings by the district administration.
