The perfect solution for those looking for a PC and entertainment system in a single, streamlined device

Toshiba has always been at the forefront of bringing new technologies and upping the industry benchmarks. With its new Satellite U840W ultrabook, Toshiba is further pushing the envelope on innovation and giving its customers faster, more powerful and smarter computing devices.

The Satellite U840W is thin and light, yet sturdy and elegant. Precisely constructed of machined aluminum with luxurious soft-touch trim, it delivers sophisticated styling, while a lightweight design and less-than-an-inch profile make it comfortable to carry. An LED backlit raised tile keyboard and ClickPad on the inside round out the refined design. Weighing just 1.68 kg, Satellite U840W guarantees a good computing experience and is an ideal travel companion.

A sturdy metallic body with aluminium and rubber coating, Toshiba?s U840w is an ultra-wide ultrabook. It is powered by two Harman Kardon speakers featured on both sides of the chicklet keyboard that is easy to type. The keys are flat and backlit. Despite so much space, it is not a full keyboard. Touchpad is great and the hand rest spacious and comfortable.

The Satellite U840W displays movies without any black bars above and below the picture. The super-wide 1792 x 768 screen resolution ensures high definition video content looks sharp and full of detail, and LED backlighting helps to boost contrast and colour saturation for a more pleasing image.

The display is the widest you can see. It may appear compressed and will take some time to get used to. But, after a time it won?t matter. However, adjusting the aspect ratio will be an issue. We found big bars on both sides while running videos. The sound quality is stunning. Its 14.4-inch display with ultra-wide screen aspect ratio lends an entirely unique user experience. It has HD display, 3 USB 3.0 and one HDMI port.

It is a fast performer and scores well in our performance tests, especially PC Mark, where it scored 8521. Its 3D mark performance is a decent 4932. The battery lasted 2 hours, 35 minutes. It runs on 1.7 Ghz Intel i5 processor, 6 GB RAM, Windows 7 premium 64bit and has 500 GB HDD. The display can run two files simultaneously?a video on one and a webpage on the other. There is an icon on the top of the page, just click on it for.

Bottom-line: This is a powerful ultrabook with a peculiar display. Its configuration and performance is impressive, still 64k is a little too much for it. If you can handle the display and price, it is worth considering.
