Fortis Healthcare, the second largest hospital chain in the country, on Tuesday posted a 59% jump in consolidated net profit for the quarter ended December 31, 2010, at Rs 34.5 crore. The company had reported a consolidated net profit of Rs 21.74 crore in the third quarter of the previous financial year, Fortis Healthcare said in a filing to the BSE.
The consolidated total income of the company also grew to Rs 371.43 crore during the quarter ended December 31, 2010, from Rs 232.48 crore in the corresponding quarter of the previous fiscal. Fortis Healthcare plans to add 900 beds and four hospitals in the next financial year. The firm has seven hospital projects in thepipeline. Speaking on the expansion plans, Fortis Healthcare chief financial officer Yogesh Sareen said, ?The firm will have to invest close to Rs 150 crore for adding the 900-bed capacity .?

During the third quarter this fiscal, the second largest hospital chain commissioned three new hospitals at Shalimar Bagh in New Delhi, Kolkata and an oncology block at Mulund, in Mumbai.
