The Energy Efficiency Indicator (EEI) survey for corporate India , released on Tuesday, reveals that 47% of the respondents are paying more attention to energy efficiency, compared to last year and 94% of the respondents feel that energy management is extremely important. An increase in capital investments for energy efficiency is needed, say 62%, while 72% of the respondents feel their organisations can achieve more energy efficiency from operating budgets. More than 92% of the respondents say energy efficiency is a priority in new construction as well as in renovation projects.
It is also interesting that 17% are seeking green building certification for new construction projects, while none are seeking such certification in renovation projects. Around 14% are considering the use of solar energy, while 22% seek solar thermal technology for new constructions.
According to the survey conducted by Johnson Controls India, a global leader in sustainable, one-stop life cycle building solutions to ensure comfortable and energy efficient buildings, energy efficiency has never been more important. The EEI survey is a research report targeting professionals responsible for energy management.
?The findings highlight the fact that business leaders are becoming increasingly aware of the need for energy efficiency and the potential impact this can have on reducing operating costs. The reduction of green house gas emissions is an advantage that the leaders seek amidst the growing awareness of sustainability issues. As energy professionals, we are committed to creating a sustainable energy efficient environment,? said Pramoda Karkal, vice president & managing director, Building Efficiency, Johnson Controls, India .
Meanwhile, Johnson Controls conducted a similar survey, covering 1400 respondents in North America in 2009. In India , 72% believe that energy management is very important to their organization, while in North America , the figure stands at 39% and 19% believe that it is extremely important. Making energy efficiency is a priority in their current or planned new constructions and renovation projects for 94% in India , while 93% feel the same in North America . Nearly 64% will make energy capital investments and 72% will make operating expenditure in energy efficiency in India . In North America , the percentages are 46% and 55%, respectively. Up to 10% of the organisations? facility-related budget in India and 10-30% in North America will be invested in energy efficiency over the next 12 months.
?It is interesting to note the higher interest in energy efficiency in India , compared to North America . It is certainly becoming more visible and important across industry segments and management levels. It is also to be noted that the commitment to invest in energy efficiency is higher in India . However, both India and North America believe that regulation and aligning incentives will drive significant investments in energy efficiency,? said Manoj Raathor, director Clinton Climate Initiative, Johnson Controls Inc.
