A day after Navin Chawla took over as the new Chief Election Commissioner, UP chief minister Mayawati launched a scathing attack on the Election Commission, stating that ?free and fair? Lok Sabha elections were not possible with both Navin Chawla and SY Quereshi, both ?agents? of the Congress, at the helm of affairs.
Charging the poll panel doing the Congress? bidding, the UP chief minister said that it was trying to marginalise other parties like BSP for their rising graph in the LS polls. The BSP supreme also alleged that the opposition parties were not happy with the fact that a Dalit?s daughter was the chief minister of UP, and now they do not want a ?Dalit ki beti? to become the prime minister.
??The EC is acting on the directives of the Congress and its allies. Under political pressure, it is trying to stop the BSP to gain power despite the party having peoples? support in its favour,?? Mayawati alleged.
Addressing to media here on Tuesday before leaving for election campaigning in MP and Kolkata, Mayawati also criticised the frequent visits of Quereshi to the state and his anti-state government statements. ?? Quereshi, who belongs to UP, is very close to a senior Samajwadi Party leader and is indirectly helping one of his Congress friends, who is contesting the Lok Sabha elections from the state??, she said.
Mayawati also alleged that the transfer of police officers by the EC on April 20 in Jaunpur, where a candidate was found hanging had proved, beyond doubt, the apprehensions of former CEC, N Gopalaswami, regarding the integrity of his successor Navin Chawla.
The EC under political pressure is trying to stop BSP to gain power despite the party having peoples? support in its favour, she claimed suggesting that the Commission was also being influenced by BSP?s arch rival Samajwadi Party.
