At a time when dollar is depreciating, imports are likely to completely dominate Ebony Retail’s foray in to four verticals in specialty retailing namely home adornments, healthcare products, kids and women wear. The retailing arm of DS Constructions is at the final stage of selecting foreign companies for home adornments and kids wear.

Ebony, one of the leading fashion and lifestyle retailer in north, in the first phase plans to strengthen its presence in north and north-western states through launch of specialty retail format by the following year. Being a company of repute for offering goods at affordable price, the specialty outlets would showcase products in mid-priced section.

“The foreign companies that we are tying up with for retail expansion are market leaders in their own countries,” Lalit Kumar, CEO and director, Ebony Retail, told FE.

The company is expected to announce the brand name for its home adornments in a couple of weeks whereas the foreign company for kids wear is expected to be finalised in January next year. “The tie-up with foreign companies would allow complete operational control in India,” Kumar said.

Ebony plans to launch four different companies for different verticals that would be part of Ebony Retail Holdings. The company is eying retail space between 1,000 to 3,000 square feet for apparel and healthcare foray whereas the home adornments outlets would have built up area of 20,000 sq feet to 40,000 sq feet.
