The contract farming scheme in Haryana would go a long way in helping the farming community by ensuring the farmers, pre-assured price of their agricultural produce, Shadi Lal Batra, MLA, chairman, Haryana state agriculture marketing board said this on Friday while inaugurating a meeting on contract farming between the sponsoring firms and farmers of the state at Panchkula.

The sponsoring firms would provide the farmers, both techniques and inputs for better farming, resulting in better value of their produce. The chairman said that food-processing industries, in turn, would assure supply of quality raw material to encourage the farmers to produce quality output.

The rights of the farmers had been protected well and a grievance redressal forum had been provided in the rules. Besides, the adoption of this scheme would fetch more value to the farmers and would enhance the income of the farmers at large.

Under this scheme, the firms will first register with HSAMB for a fee of Rs 5,000.The registration would be valid for three years. It would be renewed from time to time, he added. Chief administrator HSAM board, Ram Niwas, said that a few companies had already been registered with the board and some more were in line. The firms would benefit by the supply of quality produce in bulk quantity

This system of farming would be a boon for diversification of crops.
