So far, other Congress leaders were saying it. On Thursday, Congress president Sonia Gandhi also gave credit for the party?s spectacular showing in the Lok Sabha elections to her son and AICC general secretary Rahul Gandhi ?alongwith the ?the good work of our government?.

?Rahul?s contribution helped us get such a good majority?, Sonia said while addressing Congress workers at the Firoz Gandhi Degree College at Rae Bareli.

?The 2009 elections have been historic because we have been able to beat anti-incumbency across the country. Such a thing has happened after a long time and only because of the good work of our government at the Centre, be it NREGA, health schemes, or schemes for women,? she said.

Sonia Gandhi was on a thanksgiving visit to her constituency. She addressed five meetings of party workers, one in each assembly segement of Rae Bareli. Priyanka accompanied her and Sonia acknowledged her daughter?s contribution as well.

?It is just because Priyanka looked after Rae Bareli and Amethi that Rahul and I were able to tour the country freely during the elections,? she said.

Sonia said the people had sidelined those who indulged in caste and communal politics. She said the revival of the Congress in UP was ?a good beginning?.

?Now it is time that we should move forward and strengthen our organisation in each and every city and village of Uttar Pradesh so that we can face every forthcoming election here,? she said.
