Bhel has bagged a Rs 12,200 crore-equipment supply contract from Rajasthan state utility, Rajasthan Vidyut Utpadan Nigam (RVUNL), beating competition from Chinese supplier Dong Fang.
Bhel will supply and install four 660 supercritical units at the state utility’s Suratgarh and Chhabra power projects.
Russian suplier, Power Machines, which was also in the bidding race for the project came third. Dong Fang had bid for the project in consortium with BGR Energy.
This is the second time Bhel has won EPC contract for supercritical equipment through international competitive bidding.
Earlier, it had bagged a similar contract from Karnataka Power Corporation Ltd’s Bellary project.
Bhel has started manufacturing supercritical units a few years to benefit from the government’s policy to promote this new and energy-efficient technology over sub-critical equipment.
Bhel has emerged as the second lowest bidder in NTPC’s tendering for the bulk supply of 660 mw supercritical turbine-generators. It is also in the race for the supply of boilers.
