Air India Express, the low cost subsidiary of Air India will cancel nearly 200 flights over 50 days from three airports in Kerala to various destinations in West Asia from next week. The flight cancelleations will come into effect on September 8 till October 8. However travel plans of those who are booked on the flights will not be affected because the airline will accommodate them on other airlines and in case they want a refund, that also would be taken care of. The destinations of the cancelled flights include Abu Dhabi, Dubai, Sharjah, Muscat and Kuwait. The spokesperson of the airline said the cancellations are due to operational reasons. Meanwhile, officials at the airline say cabin crew shortage has led the carrier to take such a decision. However travel agents say it is going to be a gold mine for other airlines operating to the West Asia. The cancellations have taken place at the onset of peak travel season and there is every likelihood of an increase in airfare.
