Demanding an immediate floor test in Assembly, DMK working President MK Stalin on Sunday told Tamil Nadu Governor that ruling Palaniswami-led AIADMK government in the state has lost majority. Stalin also apprised Governor C Vidyasagar Rao of the tally as according to him, news agency ANI reported. As per Stalin, Opposition DMK’s 89 MLAs, Congress’ 8 MLAs and 1 MLA from IUML takes the number to 98. If 21 rebel AIADMK MLAs are added, Stalin says, the number will reach 119, while the minimum number required for majority in the 235 seat Assembly is 118. “If the Guv does not respond to our request within a week then we will have to take legal resort and mobilize people’s mandate,” Stalin was quoted as saying by ANI. “We have demanded immediate floor test in TN Assembly. Governor has promised to act on this,” Stalin added.
Earlier last night, Stalin had said, “With the DMK and its allies having a strength 98 MLAs in the Assembly and the ruling party’s 21 dissenting legislators, the AIADMK government, led by K Palaniswami, has lost its majority in the House.” The DMK working president had warned of a “people’s struggle” to unseat the AIADMK government, if no action was taken. Stalin’s comments have come at a time when Chief Minister Palaniswami is locked in a tussle for power with sidelined AIADMK deputy general secretary TTV Dinakaran.
