Mohammad Kaif aka Bunty wanted sharpshooter in the murder case of Bihar journalist was spotted with Shahabuddin on Tuesday. Kaif is one of the accused in the murder of Hindustan daily’s Siwan bureau chief Rajdev Ranjan. Earlier in May, Bihar police had arrested 5 people in connection to the murder. Bihar Police ADGP Sunil Kumar had told the IE that the five men had been engaged by Ladan Mian, a contract killer who was known to be close to former RJD MP Mohammad Shahabuddin.

Ranjan, who was shot on May 13, had covered crime and court reports relating to jailed RJD leader Mohammed Shahabuddin. police reports had suggested that Ranjan was shot dead at Phal Mandi near the Siwan station. The station lies barely a half kilometre from the town police station. Ranjan was shot by two bullets, one that hit his forehead and another, that hit his neck.

Earlier last week the Patna High Court had granted bail to Mohammad Shahabuddin in another case of the murder of a witness. The bail was granted by Justice Jitendra Mohan Sharma who presided over the case. The petitioner’s counsel Y V Giri told the court that the allegation against Shahabuddin in the killing of witness Rajiv Roshan was baseless as he was in Bhagalpur jail since 2014, whereas the incident happened  the following year. The release of Shahabuddin has not even been criticised by the Bihar government as Chief Minister Nitish Kumar has decided not to pay much heed to the Siwan strongman. That too when Shahabuddin launched a frontal attack against Kumar, as soon as he came out of the jail. The Bihar CM had meekly countered Shahabuddin’s swipe at him on Sunday, saying the people of Bihar had given the mandate to him. Kumar had also asked the media “not to waste time and space by giving mileage to such people”.
