Indian student deported: A video featuring an Indian student in the UK has gone viral, sparking debate after the student was accused of sexually communicating with minors online. The incident has led to the student’s deportation.

What is the case about?

The student, identified as Prajwal, had been living in the UK for six months while pursuing a degree in International Business. In the widely circulated video, UK police are seen questioning Prajwal, who was living in Woolwich about his online interactions with two underage girls.

When asked by officers, “Did you ask for pictures of these children naked?” Prajwal replied, “Yes.” He further admitted that he had requested explicit photos from the minors and acknowledged the seriousness of his actions. He had sent indecent images, pornographic videos to minor girls.

During the interrogation, Prajwal appeared visibly distressed and remorseful. “My parents will disown me,” he said, expressing fear about the repercussions his actions would have on his family back in India.

He claimed that he realised his mistake and had ceased communication with the minors.  “I was just talking to them, nothing wrong. I realised what I was doing was wrong. That’s why I have stopped,” he explained. Prajwal also admitted to calling one of the girls “cute” and expressing a desire to kiss her after receiving her photos.

Legal consequences in the UK

Sexually communicating with a child under the age of 16 is a serious criminal offence in the UK. Under the Serious Crime Act, such actions are punishable by up to two years in prison and mandatory registration as a sex offender. Prajwal’s admission of guilt and the evidence captured in the viral video led to swift action by UK authorities. He was deported from the country.

The deportation of Prajwal underscores the zero-tolerance approach adopted by UK authorities toward sexual offences involving minors.
