US President Donald Trump said on Saturday that American forces had conducted a ”very successful attack’’ by targeting three nuclear sites in Iran, including the underground facility at Fordow. The announcement was made through his social media platform, Truth Social, as tensions continue to escalate in the Middle East. ”All planes are safely on their way home,” Trump stated in his post, while hailing American military personnel for executing the operation. ”Congratulations to our great American warriors,” his post further added. Trump concluded the message with a call for diplomacy, mentioning, “Now is the time for peace.”

Strikes conducted based on nuclear threat concerns

Efforts taken by Western powers to broker a peace deal and stop further escalation have not resulted in any progress. In a separate social media post, the US President declared. “Fordow is gone,” indicating the underground facility related to Iran’s nuclear program.

The airstrikes took place after US B2 stealth bombers were reportedly sent to Guam early on Saturday. A US official has confirmed to Reuters that these advanced bombers were utilised in the operation targeting Iran’s nuclear infrastructure.

His comments come at a time of heightened military activity between Israel and Iran, which have been involved in the aerial exchanges for over a week. The ongoing tensions have resulted in casualties from both sides, raising concerns from the global community.

According to a report by the Associated Press, Iran’s state news agency IRNA referenced a provincial official that strikes had targeted the nuclear facilities of Natanz and Isfahan.

As per Trump, the airstrikes were aimed at neutralizing Iran’s nuclear facilities, a concern that Israeli officials have echoed. Israel has maintained that the military operation was required to stop Tehran from acquiring nuclear weapons.

While speaking to reporters on Friday, Trump made it clear that deploying American ground troops in Iran was not under consideration. He called it as ”the last thing you want to do’’. Trump has repeatedly emphasised his commitment to preventing Iran from making nuclear weapons. Just ahead of the US attacks, Iran’s foreign ministry has issued a warning that American intervention would be ‘’very, very dangerous for everyone involved.’’
