A suspected cyberattack continued to disrupt internet, phone, email, and other systems at Seattle-Tacoma International Airport for a third day on Monday (August 26). Port of Seattle officials are actively investigating the outages and working to restore full service.
As per the media reports Lance Lyttle, the managing director of the airport, mentioned that officials are working to get the necessary system back online and to mitigate the impact on the passengers during a press conference on Sunday.
He mentioned that the investigation is going on with the help of outside experts and with federal partners which include Transport Security Administration and Customs and Border Protection.
Air passengers affected due to outages
Airlines such as Delta and Alaska, reported no service interruptions due to the outage and both airlines use the sea-tac as a hub. The Port of Seattle’s baggage sorting system was affected by the outage which led to a warning from the airline for passengers to avoid checking bags to avoid possible delays.
The airport suggested travelers to give extra time at the airport and use airline mobile applications for boarding passes and bag tags. Despite the measure, many travelers faced long security lines and long waits at baggage counters. Terminal screens were also not visible making it difficult for the passengers to determine their gate.
