In what could be very troubling for the royal family of Norway, the son of crown princess has been charged with four counts of rape, domestic violence, assault and other crime totaling to 32 criminal charges after a year-long police investigation, a report said. Marius Borg Hoiby, son of Crown Princess Mette-Marit and stepson to Crown Prince Haakon, will most likely stand trial early 2026.
Hoiby is the son of Crown Princess Mette-Marit from a relationship prior to her marriage in 2001 to Crown Prince Haakon, Norway’s future king.

The 28-year-old man now faces up to 10 years of prison sentence, if found guilty of the most serious charges, Reuters reported citing the statement made by the prosecutor. Hoiby, meanwhile, has denied the most serious allegations, but reportedly would plead guilty on several of the minor charges, his lawyer Petar Sekulic told Reuters.
“He does not agree with the claims regarding rape and domestic violence,” Sekulic said of his client, the report mentioned. The accused, as per the report, does not have any royal title attached to him and is also not in line of succession in any manner.
What all crimes has he been charged with?
Hoiby has been charged with 32 offences, including one count of rape with sexual intercourse and three counts of rape without intercourse, some of which he filmed on his telephone, the prosecutor told Reuters. “It’s up to the judges to decide if he is guilty,” prosecutor Sturla Henriksboe told a press conference.
The accused was named as suspect of physical assault against a woman with whom he had been in a relationship. last year in August.
