Narendra Modi-Donald Trump Meeting: Prime Minister Narendra Modi and United States President Donald Trump are set to meet on February 13 in Washington, though the exact time of the meeting has not yet been confirmed, officials announced on Monday. This development follows the Ministry of External Affairs’ statement that discussions were underway with the US for an early visit by the Prime Minister. The trip will mark PM Modi’s first bilateral visit to the US since Trump was sworn in for his second term. Notably, Modi will be among the select few foreign leaders making a bilateral visit to Washington, DC, within weeks of Trump’s inauguration.
Where to watch live
The meeting will be broadcast live on PM Modi’s and the Ministry of External Affairs’ official social media platforms, with television news channels also providing live coverage. On Friday, Ministry of External Affairs spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal confirmed that both nations were working to arrange Modi’s visit at the earliest to strengthen India-US ties. However, he added that the final schedule was still being determined.
Donald Trump was sworn in as the 47th President of the United States on January 20. Following his inauguration, PM Modi spoke with him over the phone on January 27, during which both leaders reaffirmed their commitment to a “trusted” partnership, emphasizing enhanced cooperation in trade, energy, and defense. Jaiswal reiterated that efforts were underway to finalize Modi’s visit, underscoring the broader goal of deepening the India-US Comprehensive Global Strategic Partnership.
PM Modi previously visited the US in June 2017, while President Trump traveled to India for a state visit in February 2020. Since November 2024, the two leaders have spoken twice on the phone, first on November 6, 2024, and again on January 27, 2025.
