Nepal Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli on Monday resigned amid violent GenZ protests in the country over alleged corruption. His aide Prakash Silwal gave the information about his resignation, hours after four of his top ministers stepped down. Reports say Oli has been taken to military headquarters and a decision on the new Prime Minister will be taken soon, till elections are announced.
Thousands of youngsters marched to the streets, burnt vehicles, torched the residences of the President and other ministers over alleged corruption and banning of social media platforms in the country.
The protests intensified following the death of 19 youngsters as security forces tried to contain the violent agitation that turned into a mass movement on Monday. The protesters marched to parliament, torched the premises seeking to lift ban from social media including Facebook, Instagram and others.
The ban was lifted later on Monday.
Airport shut, India issues advisory
The protesters ruling party offices, CM office and buildings in Janakpur on fire as violence continued to rock capital Kathmandu Tuesday. The demonstrators gathered near Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli’s private residence in Balkot, demanding accountability, reported The Himalayan Times.
The went inside and vandalised the central office of the Nepali Congress in Sanepa, the report further said. The protesters also attacked political party office of the CPN-UML in Chyasal, Lalitpur. The broke windows, threw stones, and set fire to the building, after news of 19 deaths spread among them .

The Tribhuvan International Airport (TIA) has been closed for all operations following intense demonstrations. The cops deployed tear gas to disperse the crowd. Reports on Monday claimed there was shoot at sight order as well from the government, which further flared up the agitation.
The Indian government asked residents to maintain constraint and advised them against visiting the country as of now. The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) said it is continuously monitoring the situation. The government added that it is deeply saddened by the loss of many young lives during protests in Nepal and hoped that the issues will be resolved through peaceful means.
Oli called meeting at 6 pm today
After several of his top cabinet ministers resigned over handling of the protests, KP Sharma Oli said he has called for an all-party meeting to discuss the concerns.
“I am in dialogue with the relevant parties to assess the situation and find a meaningful conclusion. For that, I have also called an all-party meeting at 6 pm today. I humbly request all brothers and sisters to remain calm in this difficult situation,” the Nepal Prime Minister said in an appeal.
