US President Donald Trump in a recent press-conference addressed the India-Pakistan tensions by saying, “We stopped India and Pakistan from fighting,” and avoided a potential nuclear war. He expressed his motive of conducting smooth trade and how it can’t be done with warring countries. “We can’t trade with people who are shooting at each other and potentially using nuclear weapons. They’re great leaders in those countries, and they understood and they agreed,” he said.
Reiterating his credit for intervening and initiating a ceasefire between the countries, he mentioned how the US had a key role in avoiding a detrimental situation. As Elon Musk steps down from his role in DOGE, his final day press-conference, this is a lookback at India’s rejection of such claims.

Where is India on this?
External Affairs spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said, “External Affairs Minister has also made clear that the cessation of firing was decided upon through direct contacts between the DGMOs of India and Pakistan.” Adding further he mentioned how creating a war like situation was never the agenda behind Operation Sindoor. It was a target response to terrorism. However, the talks of cessation were shortly brought up after May 7.
On May 10, the Trump administration announced that they had mediated to find a common ground to steadfast towards a ceasefire. In a written statement presented to a New York federal court on Tuesday overtly mentioned how US president Trump used trade access as an incentive to “avert a full-scale war” between India and Pakistan. However, talks of trade were denied by the External Affairs ministry.
Elon Musk departs
Elon Musk has announced his departure from the Trump administration, ending a short but intense stint focused on cutting down the size of the US government. Taking to social media, Musk thanked US President Donald Trump for the chance to lead the Department of Government Efficiency, also called DOGE. His role, though always meant to be temporary, comes to an early end just after he publicly criticised one of Trump’s “big, beautiful bill”. This marks the several other job cuts by the US administration with over 2,60,000 terminations during his tenure.
It is unclear whether the Department of Governmental Efficiency (DOGE) will remain intact, however, Vivek Ramaswamy, the co-lead is set to succeed Musk.
