The “most expensive home” in Pacific Palisades has been reduced to ashes by the raging Los Angeles wildfires. The 18-bedroom mansion, known for its stunning views of the Pacific Ocean, was valued at $125 million, according to the Daily Mail, which first reported on its destruction. Owned by 29-year-old Luminar Technologies CEO Austin Russell, the property was listed for rent at $450,000 per month at the time of the fire.
The luxury estate gained fame when it appeared in the fourth season of HBO’s hit show Succession, serving as a lavish setting for the fictional Roy siblings. Russell purchased the mansion in 2021 for $83 million. Before its destruction, the futuristic four-story home featured six bathrooms, a “Nobu-designed chef’s kitchen,” a 20-seat theater, a temperature-controlled wine cellar, and a retractable roof for stargazing. The sprawling backyard included lush gardens and a state-of-the-art swimming pool, which served as a backdrop for key scenes featuring Kendall (Jeremy Strong), Roman (Kieran Culkin), and Shiv Roy (Sarah Snook).
According to the Daily Mail, even the mansion’s two panic rooms were not spared by the inferno.
As of Saturday, the Los Angeles wildfires have devastated tens of thousands of acres, claiming one life so far. Authorities have deployed arson investigators to Pacific Palisades to determine the fire’s origin.
“The cause of the fire remains unknown and is under active investigation,” Los Angeles Fire Chief Kristin Crowley stated on Thursday. However, the Los Angeles Police Department told Fox News Digital that no reports of arson have been received.
The city has also come under fire for its handling of the crisis. Reports revealed that firefighters ran out of water from hydrants on the first day of the Palisades blaze due to mismanagement of supplies. Mayor Karen Bass, who was in Ghana during the disaster, has faced criticism for cutting $18 million from the fire department’s budget earlier this year.
