The hearing on late industrialist Sunjay Kapur’s Rs 30,000 crore estate turned fierce on Friday when the lawyers representing actress Karisma Kapoor’s children and Sunjay’s widow Priya Sachdev Kapur engaged in a heated exchange. A video shared by Bar and Bench shows the two experienced lawyers shouting at each other in the Delhi High Court.

In the video, senior advocate Mahesh Jethmalani, representing Karisma Kapoor’s children, is heard saying, “don’t shout at me” after Priya Kapur’s counsel Rajiv Iyar, lost his temper and said, “don’t interrupt me”.

What exactly happened

The hearing in the inheritance dispute was underway in the court of  Justice Jyoti Singh when the two senior advocates suddenly began shouting at each other.

Here’s how the event unfolded in the 21-second viral video:

Adv Mahesh Jethmalani: Just because…

Adv Rajiv Nayar: Please don’t interrupt me. I am not used to interruptions.

Adv Mahesh Jethmalani: You should get a taste of your own medicine then. And don’t shout at me. Please don’t shout at me. Do not shout at me.

Adv Rajiv Nayar: You interrupted me.

Adv Mahesh Jethmalani: Do not shout at me. Have some courtesy to the council. If you shout, you will get paid back in coin. I am not a pushover.

The Rs 30,000 crore inheritance battle

Industrialist Sunjay Kapur died in the UK in June this year while playing polo. After his death, his estranged wife Karisma Kapoor’s children filed a petition in the Delhi High Court seeking a share in their late father’s estate. In their petition, they have accused his widow Priya Kapur of forging the businessman’s will to gain full control of assets worth around Rs 30,000 crore.

Sanjuy and Karisma Kapoor were married for 13 years and the couple has a son and a daughter. The petition, reportedly filed by the siblings through their mother Karisma Kapoor, claims that they have been wrongfully excluded from their father’s fortune.
