A disturbing discovery was made in Mataur village, Mohali district, during a raid on an illegal momo and spring roll manufacturing unit. Authorities found a severed dog’s head inside a refrigerator, according to a report published in Dainik Bhaskar.
The incident raised alarming concerns about the quality and source of meat used in street food across the tricity. The unit was operating under highly unhygienic conditions.

The raid was prompted by a viral video on social media exposing the shocking state of the facility. The footage revealed fungus-infested cabbages, maggot-ridden chutneys, and stale, reused oil.
Prepared momos and spring rolls were stored in filthy conditions—under beds, in the open and beneath tables. Some spring rolls even showed signs of being chewed by rats.

A joint team from the district health department and Mohali municipal corporation seized over 35 kg of momos and spring rolls, along with 50 kg of rotting meat.
According to the reports, the factory owner was fined Rs 12,000 for unauthorised slaughter and an additional Rs 10,000 for stocking plastic bags in bulk. Authorities are now investigating the unit’s trade license, promising strict action to prevent such hazardous food practices.
