Rahul Dravid, or Mr. Dependable as he is popularly known, had an angry exchange with an auto driver on the streets of his hometown in Bengaluru. Known for his calm and composed nature, Dravid has been an indispensable guiding force to the Indian cricket team. A video of this unexpected incident which led to a trivial public outburst has reached a large audience and sparked a debate on social media.

The minor crash between Dravid’s car and an auto-rickshaw took place on Cunningham Road in the close proximity of the famous M. Chinnaswamy Stadium. Reigniting his image as the ‘Indiranagar ka gunda’, the netizens cannot get enough of this video. Creating memes and sharing them across social media, a user reposted it on X with the caption “is this another CRED ad?” Another user @iamAdil commented “when CRED ad becomes real”. while others posted a “talk to The Wall” GIF.

The humorous and aggressive portrayal of his alter-ego for the advertisement turned into reality as he was spending time in his hometown ahead of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025. Due to poor quality audio, the exact words exchanged are unclear but witnesses reported Dravid explaining that the collision was not his doing. As a result of sudden breaking, it left very little time for him to react.

An X user called him “Cunningham Road ka gunda” pointing out the irony of the situation light-heartedly. On some posts, he is also being appreciated for being a gentleman and not being overly aggressive or losing his cool completely. An X user @harishupadhya commented, “…unlike the CRED ad, Rahul Dravid & the goods vehicle driver engaged in a civilized argument & left the place later…”. As no major damage was done, charges have not been pressed by either party. Even though there were no injuries, it does reiterate the unpredictable nature of Bengaluru traffic and the need for road safety in metro cities.

This rare but public incident may have been a minor road mishap, but the viral nature of the video has once again put Rahul Dravid in the spotlight for reasons beyond cricket. As Dravid shifts his focus to his new role with Rajasthan Royals ahead of IPL 2025, fans will be eager to see him channel his legendary discipline and leadership back onto the cricket field.
