Kiran Mazumdar-Shaw has, in a little over a week, once again criticised the Karnataka government – this time over Bengaluru’s dug-up and pothole-ridden roads. She called out the political leadership for its lack of “urgency to fix the city and make it world-class”.

Bengaluru needs political urgency, $1 billion push

“I also am puzzled about why the political leadership is not showing the political urgency to fix our city and make it world-class,” she wrote on X (formerly Twitter).

The 72-year-old businesswoman added that all it takes is “urgency, focus and $1 billion push” to fix the city. “It doesn’t take more than a focus in terms of budgetary allocation and execution.”

“A billion dollars need to be ring-fenced to do this,” she further said.

‘Huge corruption, bad governance’: Mohandas Pai slams K’taka gov

Her remarks came in response to a post by Mohandas Pai, who drew attention to the city’s deteriorating road conditions.

“Minister DK Shivakumar and Priyank Kharge, some feedback. This is not the result of growth but huge corruption and bad governance,” he wrote on X (formerly Twitter).

The former Infosys CFO pleaded for urgent action, saying, “Please help… can we have roads without potholes? This is not AI work but has been done for more than 200 years!”

B’luru’s roads among India’s worst

He burst with “anger” over the authorities after an X user called Bengaluru’s roads among the worst in India, saying that it took him 1 hour and 45 minutes to travel from Bellandur to Bengaluru airport.

“Insane,” the user wrote on X, describing the roads as “dug-up and pothole-ridden”. He added, “Sorry to say, but I think Bangalore has the worst roads in India. This is not sustainable. It will create a host of health problems for commuters in the next 10 years.”

Kiran Mazumdar-Shaw earlier highlighted the corruption at the hands of police and regulators, questioning how one could take pride in the state if its administration is deeply mired in corruption.

“If police and regulators are so corrupt, how can we be proud of our state?” she wrote on X (formerly Twitter). She also mentioned the social media handles of CM Siddaramaiah and Deputy CM DK Shivakumar.
