In a festival that thrives on avant-garde fashion and cinematic flair, it takes a lot to stand out on the Cannes red carpet. But emerging Indian actor and model Ruchi Gujjar did just that and then some. Draped in a gold bridal lehenga, drenched in Rajasthani regalia and bejewelled with kundan and pearls, Gujjar’s red carpet debut at Cannes 2025 was a glittering spectacle. Yet, it wasn’t the opulence that stole the spotlight, it was her necklace. The necklace that features portraits of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Yes, you read that right.

Worn to the Chopard “Caroline’s Universe” Dinner, Gujjar’s lehenga by designer Roopa Sharmaa sparkled with gota patti, zardozi and mirror work. But her necklace, adorned with pendants of PM Modi’s face framed by pearls and red enamel lotuses, took political fashion to a whole new level.

“The necklace is more than jewellery—it’s a symbol of strength, vision and India’s rise on the world stage,” Gujjar said. “By wearing it at Cannes, I wanted to honour our Prime Minister,” she added.

It’s the kind of look that turns heads, raises eyebrows and lights up timelines. Some called it bold, others bewildering. But everyone had something to say. “When I walked the red carpet, it felt like I was wearing the soul of Rajasthan,” Gujjar added.

In a year when Cannes fashion has seen its share of feathers, sequins and social statements, Gujjar’s Modi-powered necklace has carved out its own curious chapter in the red carpet history books, a look less about trends and more about tribute.

Who is Ruchi Gujjar?

Beyond the flashbulbs and red carpet dazzle, Ruchi Gujjar is scripting her own course into film industry. An alumna of Jaipur’s Maharani College, she traded the Pink City for Mumbai’s film sets and flashing spotlights. Crowned Miss Haryana 2023, Gujjar quickly pivoted to modeling and acting. She’s become a familiar face in the world of music videos and featured in songs like ‘Jab Tu Meri Na Rahi’ and ‘Heli Mein Chor’ earning her a growing fanbase.
