Amid ongoing Gen Z protests in Nepal, many travellers and workers are stranded as demonstrators set vehicles, buildings, and other properties on fire. In addition to the destruction, there have been reports of violent attacks as well, with people being targeted indiscriminately. A video of an Indian woman trapped in Nepal along with several others, pleading for assistance from the Indian government, has surfaced online.

She claimed that while she was at a spa, protesters set fire to the hotel where she was staying, and later, a large group armed with bats and sticks chased her, forcing her to flee for her life.

What does the viral video show?

In the now-viral video, a woman named Upasita Kale urges the Indian Embassy in Nepal to help her.

“I request the Indian Embassy to help us. Please help as many people as you can,” she said in the video.

Kale added, “I am stuck here in Pokhara, Nepal. I came here to host a volleyball league. And right now, our hotel, where I stayed, has been burnt. All my luggage, all my stuff was in my room. And that hotel was completely burnt. I was in the spa, and people were running behind me with very big sticks.”

“The condition is very bad here. There is fire everywhere on the road. They are not even leaving the tourists here. They don’t care if there is a tourist here or if someone has come here to do some work. They are setting fire everywhere without thinking. And the condition is very bad here,” she further claimed as tears filled her eyes.

Kale went on to say, “We don’t know how long we will stay here in another hotel. But I request the Indian Embassy to please send this video and message to them. I request all of you. Please help us. There are a lot of people here with me. And we are stuck here.”

The video then transitioned to show a street where a building was seen on fire. One woman could be heard saying that there were lots of people inside and that there had been an explosion.

“Don’t go up,” someone else said in the video.

A text, inserted into the video, read, “Indian government, please get all our people back. The situation is horrible in Nepal right now. Please!”
