Canadian politician Jagmeet Singh issued an apology to musician Drake on Tuesday after attending a Kendrick Lamar concert over the weekend. The remarks came after the Toronto-born rapper dubbed the former NDP leader a “goof” via Instagram and then promptly shared a screengrab of his messages. The biggest feud in recent rap history has heated up in recent years — spurring multiple court actions and a stunning rebellion against their shared record label.
Drake had lashed out at the former federal leader of the New Democratic Party on Sunday night — posting a screenshot of his DM history with Singh. Previous messages between the two included past stories that the politician had posted about the musician and a message thanking Drake for following him in 2019. The remarks soon prompted an apology and social media clarification from Singh
“I went for SZA not Kendrick, I was born in this city, I love this city. But real talk, I get it. I shouldn’t have gone at all. For me it’ll always be Drake over Kendrick,” he assured via Instagram story.
Lamar had led a concert in Toronto last week — his first in Drake’s hometown since the onset of their feud — alongside SZA and performed his critically acclaimed diss track to a two-minute ovation and encore calls. Drake had also suffered a multi-pronged public betrayal earlier this year after his exes Serena Williams and SZA performed with Lamar at the Super Bowl halftime show.
The former collaborators-turned-foes have been locked in an exceedingly public feud for over a decade. It had begun with Lamar taking public jabs at Drake from in 2013. The fight had escalated steeply last year as both launched diss tracks — including the Grammy winning ‘Not Like Us’ by Lamar.
