A security guard working at a hospital in Agra has been arrested for allegedly trying to incite communal unrest. The guard, identified as Rakesh, first installed the tiles bearing images of Dr Bhimrao Ambedkar and Lord Gautam Buddha and later destroyed them. He then shared photos with the worker of a political party to frame the hospital owner over a personal dispute.
Rakesh, who also handled minor repairs at the hospital, installed the controversial tiles on the terrace of Sarkaar Nursing Home on April 17. Weeks later, on May 13, he destroyed the tiles and ground them into powder. He then tipped off members of political groups on May 23, according to police. Police also said that he did this to settle an amount with the hospital owner.
Images go viral
Instagram handle JP Jatav Official shared the pictures of the tiles and wrote, “Baba Saheb Dr. at District Agra Government Nursing Home, Delhi Gate, Agra. The doctor had placed the photo of Bhimrao Ambedkar and Gautam Buddha on the roof floor. Bhim Army demands immediate action.”
The Instagram handle also shared a video of a scuffle between the protestors and police.
Police arrest security guard
Police said Rakesh conspired with Anil Kardam, a member of the Azad Samaj Party, who allegedly helped escalate the matter to stir unrest. Kardam organised a protest at the hospital, leading to a clash between party workers and police. Several protesters were detained after the scuffle as they demanded that the hospital owner be brought to justice.
However, the investigation later revealed that the hospital management was not involved and that the act was carried out by Rakesh with Kardam’s support. The motive, police say, was to settle a personal score with the nursing home owner.
