In an unexpected turn of events in New York, the Indian cricket team was asked to secure gym memberships for its players outside their hotel due to inadequate facilities.

According to Cricket Next, the players are using a popular gym chain in the city because the gym facilities at their Long Island hotel were insufficient. “Yes, the team doesn’t use the hotel gym and they have a membership at a nearby gym, which is a very popular chain,” a source said.

Previously, reports indicated that the Indian team was dissatisfied with the “average facilities” at Cantiague Park, an official ICC net area with six drop-in pitches. Although the USA is not traditionally a cricketing nation, the ICC has been striving to popularise the sport there.

“We all are aware of the rushed arrangements everywhere. From practice to ground to the gym facilities in the hotel, everything is here and there. Chaos is the right word,” the source added.

Despite these challenges, India is in a strong position to qualify for the Super 8s, having won both of their Group A matches so far against Ireland and Pakistan. Their next matches are scheduled against co-hosts USA and Canada.

The efforts to adapt and overcome the logistical hurdles underscore the determination of the Indian team as they aim for success in the tournament, while also highlighting the growing pains of hosting such a significant cricket event in a non-traditional cricketing country.
