Former Indian Cricket Team coach Rahul Dravid has once again won millions of hearts as he refused BCCI’s extra Rs 2.5-crore bonus after the team won the T20 World Cup last month.
The entire team, including the players, was to receive Rs 125 crore, of which Rs 5 crore was awarded to Dravid and the rest of the coaching support staff got Rs 2.5 crore. Dravid has decided to let go of half of his prize money and take the remaining amount, being at par with the rest of the staff.
“Rahul wanted the same bonus money (Rs. 2.5 crore) as the rest of his support staff (bowling coach Paras Mhambrey, fielding coach T Dilip and batting coach Vikram Rathore). We respect his sentiments,” Hindustan Times reported citing a BCCI source.
Not his first time
This is not the first time Dravid has done something like this. Earlier as the head coach of India’s winning U-19 World Cup team of 2018, he was to get Rs 50 lakh, while other members of the support staff were awarded Rs 20 lakh each. Dravid declined to support such a division, prompting the BCCI to revise the distribution percentages and ensure equal rewards for everyone.
The board subsequently released a revised list of cash awards, granting each member of the support staff, including Dravid, Rs 25 lakh.
